Aláírta az 1997-es globális megállapodásuk korszerűsített változatát az Európai Unió és Mexikó, amely a vámok szinte teljes eltörlésével, új beruházásokkal és a kritikus ásványkincsekre vonatkozó együttműködéssel mélyíti el a két fél partnerségét. A megújított egyezmény értelmében az EU további 5 milliárd eurót fektet be mexikói kulcsiparágakba, az agrár-élelmiszeripari vámok 99%-ának megszüntetése pedig évente mintegy 100 millió eurós megtakarítást hozhat az európai exportőröknek. A megállapodás a geopolitikai bizonytalanságok közepette a gazdasági biztonság és a diverzifikáció erősítését szolgálja, miközben közös értékekre – emberi jogokra, fenntartható fejlődésre és szabályalapú együttműködésre – épül. Az egyezmény az EU 2026-os ambiciózus kereskedelmi menetrendjének újabb mérföldköve az Indiával és Ausztráliával kötött megállapodások mellett.
