Bodrogi Gyula az elmúlt kilenc évtized során átélt már mindent, amit az élet adhatott: háborús megpróbáltatásokat, betegségeket, gyerekkori csúfolásokat és a kultúra nagy politikai hullámveréseit. Ennek ellenére rendületlenül optimista marad, és saját bevallása szerint az idegrendszere a legnagyobb ajándéka. Bár a színházi világot rendszeresen felkavarják a közéleti csaták, a nemzet színésze mindig is távol tartotta magát a közvetlen politizálástól, szakmai és emberi kérdésekben azonban ma is egyenesen és őszintén fogalmaz.
