Visszaélésekre bukkantak a Külügyminisztérium munkatársai a honosítások területén, számos olyan kanadai személy kapott állampolgárságot, akik nem feleltek meg a kritériumoknak, viszont pénzért vásárolhatták meg a honosítást. A témáról Velkey-György László külügyi államtitkár számolt be egy videóban, aki az ügyek átvizsgálásról és a visszavonás lehetőségéről beszélt.
