Egy civil kezdeményezés azt javasolja, hogy július 8-a a jövőben hivatalos nemzeti ünneppé váljon a Rákóczi-szabadságharc emlékére. A felvetés szerint így méltóbb figyelmet kaphatna II. Rákóczi Ferenc szerepe, mint a jelenlegi emléknap keretei között. Bár az ötlet egyelőre inkább gondolatébresztő, rávilágít arra, hogy a nemzeti emlékezet rendszere időről időre újragondolható.
