Miközben Európa az energiaátmenetre és a karbonsemlegességre összpontosít, egy kevésbé látványos, mégis alapvető kérdés háttérbe szorul: hogyan használjuk fel a rendelkezésünkre álló nyersanyagokat. Pedig ma már egyre több nemzetközi elemzés igazolja, hogy a körforgásos gazdaság nem csupán a hulladék mennyiségét csökkentheti, hanem érdemben mérsékelheti az üvegházhatású gázok kibocsátását, lassíthatja a biodiverzitás csökkenését, és új gazdasági lehetőségeket is teremthet. Bár a rendelkezésre álló bizonyítékok egyre meggyőzőbbek, a körforgásos gazdaság széles körű elterjedését továbbra is lassítják a rövid távú gazdasági érdekek.
