A University College London által vezetett kutatás szerint a tartós anyagi nehézségek jelentős hatással lehetnek az életkorral járó kognitív hanyatlásra. Az „Innovation in Aging” című folyóiratban megjelent tanulmány az Egyesült Királyságban élő 2 759 személy adatait elemezte, akik az 1946-os brit tanulmány keretében évtizedeken át rendszeresen kitöltött kérdőívekkel szolgáltattak információkat életkörülményeikről.
